It also increases overall line pressure around 20-30 psi in the WOT position.

Technically speaking, the TV cable does not tell the transmission anything, it controls the throttle valve which controls throttle pressure directed to the backside of the shift valves to counteract governor pressure pushing on the otherside of the shift valves trying to cause upshifts. Will be doing this as soon as I can.Ī tightly adjusted TV cable causes late harder shifts because this essentially tells the transmission you are using heavy throttle for maximum acceleration and therefore downshift to passing gear or hold current shifts to higher rpm.Ī loosely adjusted TV cable causes early soft shift because this essentially tells the transmission you are using minimal throttle putting around so the shift strategy somewhat matches that scenario with early soft shifts. I will be ordering the borg warner governor pressure solenoid that dynamic suggested and will replace the transducer as well while I am in there. I will be doing some towing tomorrow morning (bout 8k) for a few hours through town and freeway so I will report back to how that little trip goes. If there is an underlying issue that causes these shift patterns and it can really harm the transmission, then I need to address them.

Im not really worried and kind of like the long 1-2 shift becuase I can back off and make it shift normal if I play with the throttle pedal but I HATE the long 3-4 and and just not sure if I will hurt anything by driving it like this. If I hammer on it from a stop it bangs 1,2,3 just fine, 3-4 is still long winded and usually wont shift till 4th gear and lockup till almost 50 mph (driving normal). I can ease into the throttle, putting through town, and when first is winding out, I can back off the throttle just a smidge and it will shift into second. One thing that I forgot to mention was that two things seemed off on the transmission when it came from the shop: 1-2 shift is long if under 15% throttle and 3-4 shift is long as well. I highly recommend the Borg Warner HD governor pressure solenoid and an OEM pressure transducer.ĭrove the truck around the last couple days through town (no freeway) and issue has not returned. They should really be replaced when a "shift kit" or modified valve body is installed. There is also the possibility that your transducer is bad.

In either case, their purpose is the same to release excess governor pressure (due to the increased line pressure) to prevent the code you're experiencing. Superior sends you a new shuttle valve with a relief valve incorporated into it. It's kind of a cheesy little contraption, but it does work if installed correctly.

Transgo uses a small ball-and-seat type relief valve that gets installed in the lower valve body, on the back side of the quick fill valve, along with a hole drilled in the lower separator plate. Yes, the 24 valves can set a code for excessive governor pressure when a "shift kit" is installed if steps aren't taken to either limit governor pressure (relief valve - part of the kit), or fool the PCM into thinking that the governor pressure isn't as high as it really is (resistor).
